BSLA Board Minutes - August 14, 2009 Meeting called to order at 8:37 by President Jim Krezowski Board members present: John Pilney, Neal Sampson, Vern Awes, Bill Reed, Jack Johnson, Bruce Johnson, Mark Anderson, Dan Branson and Dean Anderson. Liaison Members Present: Jim Carlson and Jim Knoble Guests: Scott Turner, Brian Napstad, Dave Tjosvold Wayne Alden, Bruce Larson. Minutes approved with the addition of board member Mark Anderson in attendance. Treasures Report Approved. Membership - Discussed changing annual dues dates to April 1st or May 1st or June 1st. Some felt Jan 1st was good but members of BSLA often forget to sign up - so wait until spring - to be considered. A motion was made by Dean Anderson to start dues on August 1 for next year and passed. Jim Krezowski report - ROPE Study still on hold - Community Meal OK - Some questions by Vern Awes on purpose of meal to BSLA Star Lake - A meeting is to be held on August 15, 2009 with Star Lake representatives. Newsletter - Articles are due before September 21st to Jim Carlson. Please get them to Jim by mid-September. Mission Statement - Was challenged re-right to protect personal property. A motion was made and passed to study this issue. Bill Reed will look into it. Buckthorn - has appeared and Bill Reed will refer this to Steve Hughes. Vern Awes reported geese are a major problem. Krezowski will call Brent Speldrich. Bill Reed reported ACLARA was collecting information on signs on lakes and landings. Rich Beschowiez is studying data on BSL fish. John Pilney - Kennicott responded on meeting of July 10 on August 7, 2009. John Pilney has a hold on as to the difference of opinion on how the study was conducted. TMDL report not out yet, costs need to be studied. Neal Sampson - Invasive species study on BSL was very educational, also new study in Duluth harbor. Jim Carlson - Community Project - Wild Rice Days - Eleven volunteers signed up to help with set up, take down and man booth. Water Institute program - Four plus weeks and 400 kids. So far 3600 kids have taken part in program. Half are from McGregor and half from outside McGregor. Vern Awes suggested outside kids pay tuition to attend. Guest - Scott Turner - There are 65 buoys on BSL to be tended and watched. He showed the new "no wake signs". Those that drive 55 MPH plus 10/ 10 MPH over to pass a car driving with allowable speed over 55- please ask! Guest - Brian Napstad - Reported on Lake Avenue bridge progress. Behind schedule but should be ready for winter. Hwy 65 will finish by December 1, 2009. May need some spring redoing. Plasma Gasification progress at Rossberg. It may be a 30 million dollar plant. An important meeting will be held on September 26 @ 10AM in Aitkin. Mississippi Headwaters Board got $100,000 funding restored. Hopefully this will filter down. Suggestions - Where are June Annual Meeting minutes? Approve minutes at meetings end by computer? List website on all agenda and board minutes.
