Aquatic Plant Identification Class 2009 |
One boat with the instructor Mary Blickenderfer, went back to the site where Flowering Rush was first found on Big Sandy Lake, what they found were plants not yet flowering. The photos here show some of the plants found that day. As you can see the plant is very hard to identify without it's umbrella like cluster of flowers. In deeper water, the plant grows submerged with floating leaves. Bloom time is June to August Resembles bulrushes and true rushes when not in flower. Bulbils (little bulb-like plant sprouts) may be present at the base of flower stalks and at the roots. |
