BSLA MINUTES JUNE 12, 2009 - GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH BSLA meeting called to order by President Jim Krezowski on June 12, 2009. Board Members: Jim Knoble, Karen Trembley, Neal Sampson, Bob Griefzu, John Sturner, John Merboth, Dan Branson, Mark Anderson, John Pilney, Bill Reed, Jack Johnson and Mark Johnson. Guests: Dan Guida, Bruce Johnson, Karen Tero, Jim Carlson, Vern Awes & Ron Smith. Minutes/Treasurers report for May 15th, 2009 approved as read. Membership: John Merboth reported that there are 444 members. Jim Krezowski passed around the update for duties assigned….name, address etc. The annual meeting was finalized. Ballots are needed for the annual meeting….Mark Anderson, Mark Johnson, Neal Sampson, John Pilney incumbents. Karen Tero & Bruce Johnson will be running for a board position write in's are possible. The Lake Association is on the schedule for the community meal in McGregor on July 15th. The Rivers and Lakes Fair is set up and ready to go. Old Business:….Russ Thompson patty project is complete if anyone would like to take a look at it. New Business: There was discussion regarding our newsletter; how many times should the newsletter be sent out in a year. John Sturner stressed the newsletter is good for communication. Articles need to be into Jim Carlson by September 21st…the newsletter will be put together on October 9th after the October meeting. Our July board meeting will be held at Fisherman's Bay. Kennecott will be a guest speaker. The question to Kennecott is regarding water quality and what there goal/guarantee is for the next 20, 50 or 100 years. Water Quality: BSALWMP meets 11 months out of the year; we need someone who can attend these meetings. At this time all current grants have been spent. We have a request for any remaining dollars. Brian Napstad will propose to Bowser board to get additional money from AIG at the annual meeting on July 18th. TMDL….2008 data is Big Sandy is picking up phosphorous in large amounts. John Pilney reported that we need solid data regarding the phosphorous issue. Invasive Species….Neal Sampson, signs are now up at boat ramps. $300.00 is needed to cover additional expenses for this project. Motion was made and seconded to cover this expense. The purple loosestrife will be addressed at the Rivers & Lakes Fair. There is additional information in the Newsletter. John Sturner reported the Star Lake program is moving slowly. John Sturner needs our Lake Management Plan updated. Mark Johnson, Jim Krezowski and John Sturner will be working on this project. Guest Speakers: Dan Guida gave an update on Big Sandy. The slow no wake signs will be done soon. Report if buoys are missing or have been moved. Dan Guida will check with the Sheriff on the slow no wake signs for the Prairie River and report back to Tom Besch. Ron Smith, Shamrock Township said there are a few drainage problems around the township. Brian Napstad reported the conditional use permit has gone through for the asphalt on Hwy 65. Work on 65 and the Prairie River bridge will began soon. Brian expanded on possible projects on Big Sandy Lake; BSLA should have a running list for projects that would be eligible for grant money if monies come available quickly. The Shoreland Ordinance is now in place and we have a copy…. Bob Griefzu and Jim Knoble received a gift certificate from the association for their long commitment on the board and will now be serving as liaisons. Bob Griefzu reported the possibility of getting some stimulus money to complete a handicap fishing pier. Bob will pursue this. Motion made and seconded to adjourn meeting.
